MODULE 1
Design Principles, Elements and Styles
Every home needs loving care and an experienced and knowledgeable decorator who can provide the homeowner with an elegant and professionally finished look. In this module we will discuss the principles and elements of design that will teach you to think visually and develop a distinctive, personal style of your own. Understanding and learning about various decorating styles will help you determine your preferred style and how to adjust your vision for the space to accomodate clients’ needs and wants.
MODULE 2
Color
Color is an important decorating element. Choosing the right wall and floor colors can make or break a space. It is important to keep the goal of the space and functionality in mind and understand what type of work is being performed there. Cool tones generally create relaxing atmosphere while warm tones can energize the space and its occupants. In this module we will discuss the color theory, harmony and color psychology and learn to use color to create an inviting and productive space.
MODULE 3
Lighting
Any residential or commercial space requires a good lighting design to create the right mood and ambiance. Lighting designers have the knowledge and resources for different types of lighting and their functionality in particular spaces. Different types of lighting fixtures and their proper use in decorating is an important part of an aesthetically well designed space.  In this Module we will discuss the different types of lighting and their effects and functionality in the space. Different types of lighting fixtures will be examined as well.
MODULE 4
Space Planning and Furniture Arrangements
Space planning and creating a floor plan are one of the most important elements of the interior design process. The space planning will define the flow patterns to show how people will move through the space. A floor plan is a type of drawing that shows you the layout of a home or property (from above). Floor plans are usually drawn to scale and will indicate room types, room sizes, and wall lengths. They may also show furniture layouts and include outdoor areas. In this Module you will learn how to create a space plan and a floor plan so you can create a well functioning design.
MODULE 5
Fabrics and Window Treatments
Fabrics and window treatments are probably the most undermined elements in interior design. Fabrics add color, warmth, and pattern to the overall room design. Window treatments pull a room together. They provide aesthetic value and many times functionality to the design. However, many homeowners do not give enough importance to decorating windows whether it is a need v. want issue, budget issue or a design element issue. Windows are the eyes to the soul of the house and need as much attention as the rest of the room. In this Module we will discuss different types of window treatments as well as fabrics used for decorating. Fabrics are one of the core elements of interior decorating.
MODULE 6
The Process and Profession of Interior Decorator
Interior decorating can be a rewarding business. An education, experience, and an outgoing personality are important in running a successful business. In this Module you will learn how to start an interior decorating business and what is needed for setting up your own company. Letter of Agreement, Interior Decorator Contract, web site, social media presence and memberships in a interior decorators association will be discussed in detail.

Withdrawal requests from the program must be submitted in writing. There is a $25 per program cancelation fee. The $50 registration fee is non-refundable.
